Thank U, Next is the upcoming fifth studio album by American singer Ariana Grande. The album is a follow-up to her fourth studio album, Sweetener (2018). Its title track was released on November 3, and became Grande's first number-one single in the United States upon its debut atop the Billboard Hot 100.

In September 2018, Grande's ex-boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller, passed away from a drug overdose. The following month, Grande announced that she would be taking a break from music. That same month, Grande revealed that she had been in the studio working on new music, despite her previous statements, and announced the Sweetener World Tour (2019). Grande stated that the tour would be in support of both her fourth studio album, Sweetener (2018), as well as her upcoming fifth studio album. On November 3, 2018, Grande released the title track of the album as the lead single without prior announcement.

Grande released "Thank U, Next" as the album's lead single on November 3, 2018. She performed the song along with "Breathin" from Sweetener on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on November 7.
